Recent archaeological investigations exposed several peculiar cooking features that date as early as A.D. 800. Further ethnographic investigations revealed links between this ancient cooking technology and the modern-day Manabita oven used throughout the province. These multi-purpose ovens have undergone very little change and today represent a simple but extremely efficient technology that is an excellent alternative for families that cannot afford modern cook stoves or ovens. Cooking everything from fish to turkey to cakes, come learn how anthropological research is preserving part of what is truly unique about domestic life on the Ecuadorian coast.
