Texas Tech University Women's Studies Program presents a Pre-Conference Event on April 12 to kick off our 28th Annual All-University Conference held April 12-13.
Inspired by the Nobel Peace Prize winners of 2011: Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Leymah Gbowee and Tawakkol Karman "for their non-violent struggle for the safety of women and for women’s rights to full participation in peace-building work", we will be showcasing the award winning documentary by Gini Reticker (Director) "Pray the Devil Back to Hell" (2008) 60 min, which chronicles the remarkable story of the courageous Liberian women who came together to end a bloody civil war and bring peace to their shattered country.
Following our pre-conference event, on Friday April 13, we will continue the discussion and the theme of the conference, "Women and Global Change: Achieving Peace through Empowering Women" with special guest keynote speakers; Dr. Robin Chandler, Assoc Professor of African American Studies and author of “Women, War, and Violence: Personal Perspectives and Global Activism” and Jensine Larsen, founder of the global media network World Pulse.
Additionally, representatives from Indiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Virginia, West Texas A&M, Abilene Christian University, and Angelo State University will join Texas Tech University faculty, staff and students with concurrent academic paper and panel sessions throughout the day on Friday.
