Campus Beautification Project

Beginning Monday, December 16, the Campus Beautification Project, approved Friday by the Board of Regents, will begin. The project encompasses two distinct areas:  the campus entrance at Broadway and the Library Mall (between the Library and English and Philosophy). The project, funded by a private donor, will include the removal of old and diseased trees in both locations, pruning and relocating of trees, and the planting of approximately 130 new trees on the Broadway Entrance and Memorial Circle. Sidewalks and upgraded lighting will be added along the entrance area as well. Construction of a plaza with new paving, lighting and plantings will take place around the Texas Tech Seal. The fountain at the Broadway entrance will be repainted and the brick removed and replaced with a stone seating area and paving around the perimeter.

At the Library Mall, the soil will be cultivated to receive new trees, while old and diseased trees will be removed and others relocated. Approximately 115 new trees will be planted in groves and adjacent to the walkways. Trees also will be planted on the Library patio. Lighting in the area will be upgraded and new sidewalks will be added. Some areas will receive decomposed granite seating/gathering areas with outdoor furniture and lighting.
