Dr. Jamie Cooper in the Department of Nutritional Sciences, is recruiting adult men and women (ages 18-65) who are taking a 1-3 week vacation to participate in a research study looking at the effects of vacation on health measures.
This study involves three (3) visits. The first visit will take place within one (1) week of departure for your vacation and will last approximately 15 minutes. Visit 2 will take place within one (1) week of you returning from vacation and visit 3 will be five (5) weeks after visit 2. Each follow-up visit will also last approximately 15 minutes. You will not be able to eat or drink (including caffeine) for four (4) hours before each visit and will need to avoid moderate to vigorous exercise for 12 hours prior to each visit.
During each visit, we will measure your height, weight and waist to hip ratio. Additionally, we will measure your body composition with a safe, non-invasive method called bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) and will take your blood pressure while you are in a seated position. Finally, we will ask you questions regarding your nutrition and exercise habits.
Your participation in this study will be strictly voluntary and greatly appreciated. After successfully completing the three study visits you will earn $10 and will have the opportunity to be entered into a drawing for a $100 VISA gift card. Odds of winning are approximately 1:50 and a drawing will be made in the fall of 2014. You may refuse or cease your participation at any time during the study.
