OLLI & Alumni Assoc. present "Seduction, Death, & Search for Black Carmen" May 1

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) & Alumni Assoc. present, "Seduction, Death, & Global Search for a Black Carmen" May 1 & 8 at 2pm

As operatic cinema has expanded around the world, many of the conventions of opera - aspiration for refinement , spiritual power of the voice, and descent into madness and death - are often recast according to new cultural values. This presentation explores the contexts, musical considerations, and images of the voice in four films. Instructor is Lee Chambers, a Ph.D. candidate in musicology at TTU.
