Secure Enhancements to eRaider Account Management

Recently, the account credentials (usernames and passwords) of state and local government and higher education have been under increasing attack by Internet-based criminals. A new feature of eRaider enhances security by providing a stronger, secure means to verify whether requests to recover your account are from you, and not someone else trying to take control of your account. This type of account protection is commonly used today by online banking and shopping sites as well as popular email providers such as Yahoo, Google, and Microsoft.

To provide a higher level of security and protection of eRaider account credentials, eRaider account holders now provide an alternate form of contact information – an alternate email address and/or a mobile phone number capable of receiving text messages. This alternate contact information will be used only to recover your eRaider account should you forget your password, replacing the secret question dialog used previously. Please note that your alternate contact information will not be shared with any external group, and is only intended to be used for your account recovery.

If you have not yet provided an alternate form of contact information, you will be prompted to do so at your next password change. This information can also be updated at any time by signing in to http://eraider.ttu.edu and clicking the "Update Information" link under the "Alternate Contact Information" section.

With the ever increasing number of attacks against the University’s data, as well as your private data, we urge all TTU faculty, staff, and students to be vigilant in protecting their account credentials by following these and other safe computing practices:

  • NEVER give your eRaider password to anyone else
  • Be aware that Internet criminals will attempt to deceive you into giving your eRaider password
  • The most common method of deception is through “phishing” emails
  • Popular deceptive email subject lines are often designed to be from IT Support or the Help Desk, such as:
    • Verify Your Account
    • Your email Quota has been exceeded
    • Activate Your Mailbox
  • With very few exceptions such as Outlook Web Access and Sharepoint, all TTU websites that require you to authenticate – i.e. login with your eRaider credentials – use the same official eRaider login page
  • Any other site asking for your eRaider credentials is likely a phishing site – contact IT Help Central ithelpcentral@ttu.edu or (806) 742-4357 for assistance
