Fall Course: HIST-4305
Enroll and register for HIST-4305-001 in Fall 2014. This junior and senior level history course for the Fall 2014 semester will review American history between the end of Reconstruction in 1877 and World War I with a focus on civil rights and race relations, the growth of industry, gender issues, immigration, empire, and popular culture. In the course, we will explore issues related to Jim Crow and "separate but equal" from the end of Reconstruction through African American soldiers that saw duty in World War I, the emergence of the labor movement and work conflicts during the Gilded Age, and America's entry into larger world affairs through imperialism. Assigned texts will include primary documents, historical monographs, films, and a graphic novel by Max Brooks (author of World War Z). HIST-4305 fulfills the writing intensive requirements for history majors and minors and three hours of the core curriculum credit requirement in American history.
