AUDITION FOR FALL SEMESTER PRODUCTIONS

Texas Tech University’s Department of Theatre & Dance announces auditions for the fall semester.  Auditions will be held Tuesday, August 26 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre, located at 2812 18th Street between Boston and Flint Avenues.  Callbacks will be held Wednesday, August 27 and Thursday, August 28.

Auditions are open to any student currently enrolled at Texas Tech University (undergraduates—six or more credit hours; graduates—three or more credit hours) and to TTU faculty and staff.  We are particularly interested in people of color as there are several good roles.

The fall semester begins with the hilarious musical Avenue Q, October 9-12 and 16-19, directed by Linda Donahue in the Mainstage Theatre. This irreverent musical is a delightful, satirical send up of Sesame Street for adults.  Please note rehearsals for Avenue Q will begin August 29.

The Laboratory Theatre season opens October 27-November 2 with The Soft Parade an original script by graduate student Nicholas Irion, directed by Nikki Irion.  What happens when the dead are reanimated?  The Soft Parade concentrates on the relationship between and a daughter and her father, both of whom object to the procedure.

A devised piece which seeks to capture a facet of the identity and heart of the Hispanic community in Lubbock, TX by weaving together their collective stories, experiences, and culture will be presented both on and off the TTU campus October 24 through 26.  Identity, directed by Evangeline Jimenez, seeks to create educational and creative outreach to members of the Hispanic community.

Rounding out the fall the Mainstage season will be Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, a new comedy by Christopher Durang, November 20-23, directed by Jonathan Marks.  Vanya and Sonia tolerate the mediocrity of their middle-aged lives in Bucks County, PA, until their movie-star sister Masha returns for a visit with her boy-toy Spike.  Masha incites a madcap family reunion, complete with all the comic genius that only Christopher Durang can deliver.

Individuals wishing to audition should prepare and memorize one modern dramatic or modern comic monologue and 16 bars of music (preferably, a selection from a modern pop musical.)  Audition slots will be two minutes maximum, and individuals can sign up for a time slot on the callboard in the Maedgen Theatre building, beginning Monday, August 28.

Prior to auditions, please make 12 copies of the audition form and your resume.  Copies will not be made the night of auditions.
