WOMEN'S STRENGTH TRAINING STUDY!

Hello, my name is Kendra Olinghouse. I am a Graduate Assistant in the Department of Health, Exercise, and Sport Sciences. I am conducting a research study on muscle architecture, and I am in need of healthy women between the ages of 18 and 35 that have not been involved in a structured lower-body strength training program during the previous six months. Including pre- and post-testing, the study is roughly five weeks long. The study and its procedures will take place at the Exercise and Sport Sciences building. Each visit will take roughly 60-120 minutes of your time (depending on which group you are in and what day it is).  There will be five tests that you will complete on six separate occasions (e.g., DEXA, Ultrasound, Biodex, EMG, countermovement jumps). We will also have you perform deadlifts and back squats twice per week for four weeks (if you are not in the control group). We expect that these workouts will make your muscles sore. This investigation will also utilize a technique known as electromyography, or EMG, to measure muscle activation.  Upon completion of the study, subjects will learn their body-fat percentage and bone density, and will be compensated $50. If you are interested in learning more about this study, please email me at kendra.olinghouse@ttu.edu

This study has been approved by the Human Research Protection Program at Texas Tech University.
