Moving a class online requires good strategy for both curricula and pedagogy. For curricula, we will share how to plan effectively, take advantage of available resources and expertise, work backward from learning goals assessments to learning activities, and author good course content. For pedagogy, we will discuss how to build engagement with students, including designing synchronous activities, using audio and video, managing group work, and using hybrid settings. To illustrate some of these approaches to curriculum and pedagogy in context, we will present an example of developing a distance course in Cell Biology for upper-division biology majors.
