Mobile devices are increasingly becoming targets for malware because of your “quick” response to a message or clicking on a link.
Best practices to help protect your mobile device:
- Use mobile device security features such as a passcode or fingerprint recognition;
- Maintain up-to-date software, including operating systems and apps;
- Install anti-virus software if available;
- Encrypt personal and sensitive data, when possible;
- Disable features not currently in use such as Bluetooth or WiFi;
- Set Bluetooth-enabled devices to “non-discoverable,” so that unauthenticated devices cannot detect them;
- Use caution when opening attachments or clicking links contained in text messages and email;
- Avoid joining unknown WiFi networks;
- Don’t install apps you don’t need and delete unused apps;
- Delete all information stored in a device prior to discarding it; and
- Do not leave your mobile device unattended.
