Do You Know About. . . Mobile App Security
The world has experienced an explosion of mobile device application development – “there’s an app for that.” If you own a smartphone or a tablet, you may have downloaded apps for listening to music, online banking, playing games, or connecting on social media networks. Here are a “few facts about that:”
  • Use caution and discretion when downloading apps from any online app stores, even reputable ones. Any app from any app store can potentially contain malware. While apps from the Apple and Microsoft App stores are vetted and certified, Google Play is much more open and more likely to contain apps with malware (Google removes malicious apps when they become aware of them). Beware of free or low-cost apps from unknown app stores or websites, as they may not require stringent code standards and formal app review.
  • Install app updates as soon as they become available from the app store where you originally purchased or obtained the app; and
  • Don’t install apps you don’t need and delete unused apps.
