  • Date: Friday, October 31, 2014
  • Time: 12:00 noon CT

We are facing an unprecedented increase in the rate of emerging infectious diseases, including Ebola. These diseases have the potential to cause pandemics in humans and animals. As many as 70% are zoonotic and can be transmitted to humans through animals. As our capacity to detect and fight outbreaks increases, will we keep up with the emergence of new infections?

Dr. Seema Yasmin is a medical doctor, epidemiologist, and journalist. She is a staff writer at The Dallas Morning News and a professor of public health at The University of Texas at Dallas. Yasmin served as an officer in the Epidemic Intelligence Service at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and has investigated epidemics in maximum-security prisons, American Indian reservations, and healthcare facilities. She trained in medicine at the University of Cambridge in England and in journalism at the University of Toronto.

This event is being sponsored by The Center for Tropical Medicine and Infectious Diseases, The Office of Global Health, and The Global Health Alliance.

Free lunch will be provided to the first 100 attendees!
