IFS PRESENTS TWO HALLOWEEN SPECIAL FILMS: TOMBS OF THE BLIND DEAD & CRONOS
On Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 10:30 p.m., the International Film Series and Rob Weiner will host a special screening of the Spanish zombie film, Tombs of the Blind Dead (1971).

“I will say this,” said Weiner, “They are the coolest and most unique looking of all the movie zombies ever created in the history of cinema and some of the slowest moving. These are mummified zombies that find their victims through the use of sound. They are literally blind, but they just look so cool in their skeletal frames. There were four films in the Blind Dead series and they pushed the boundaries of what could be shown under the Franco regime.”

On Thursday, Oct. 30 at 8 p.m. the International Film Series will present a special Halloween screening of Cronos.

Cronos is Guillermo Del Toro’s first film and a delightful, Mexican entry into the vampire horror genre. Following the screening, Dr. Gary Elbow, TTU Department of Geosciences, will host a post-screening discussion. Attendees are encouraged to participate.

Both screenings will take place at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, located at 120 West Loop 289, Lubbock.

Reserved seats are available through theAlamo Drafthouse website. Reserved seats are $5 and can be exchanged for $5 food/beverage vouchers good for use inside the Alamo auditoriums.

About International Film Series: Our mission is to provide the Texas Tech University campus and the Lubbock community with regular screenings of international and independent cinema. Our screenings are paired with speakers, panels or roundtables that offer the opportunity to discuss issues raised by the films themselves. Moreover, we wish to provide logistical and material support to members of the campus community who wish to bring to campus films that meet the goals of the series. The International Film Series is sponsored by the Texas Tech Cross-Cultural Academic Advancement Center, Department of Journalism and Electronic Media, and the Thomas Jay Harris Institute for Hispanic and International Communication.
