On Tuesday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. the Texas Tech International Film Series launches its 2015 season with a showing of La Strada, a 1954 Italian drama directed by the master Federico Fellini. La Strada won the Academy Award for the Best Foreign Language Film.
Fellini scholar and a Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Italian, Comparative Literature and Film Studies at Indiana University, Peter Bondanella, will be in attendance.
The International Film Series, the Theatre Department and the Italian Progam will host Bondanella on Tuesday, Jan. 27, at 4 p.m. in the Qualia Room of the Foreign Languages Building as he lectures on Fellini and Fantasy: The Making of an Auteur. This lecture is free and open to the public.
This semester, the International Film Series will present a complete Fellini retrospective series. The series will include The Nights of Cabiria(1957), 81/2 (1963) and La Dolce Vita (1960).
The screening will take place at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, at 120 West Loop 289, Lubbock.
Reserved seats, available through the Alamo Drafthouse website, are $5 and can be exchanged for $5 food/beverage vouchers good for use inside the Alamo auditoriums.
About International Film Series: Our mission is to provide the Texas Tech University campus and the Lubbock community with regular screenings of international and independent cinema. Our screenings are paired with speakers, panels or roundtables that offer the opportunity to discuss issues raised by the films themselves.
