In a rare performance to come to the United States, the Whirling Dervish of Rumi – an 800 year tradition and highly spiritual performance that will showcase the celebration of existence, performed by members of a branch of the Sufi order, which was founded in the 13th century in the Turkish city of Konya.
“We are proud to bring this significant cultural celebration of the Turkish people all the way to Lubbock, Texas,” said AtillaHafizoglu M.A , the Lubbock Representative of the Dialogue Institute.
He said that Sufism emphasizes universal love, peace, acceptance of various spiritual paths and a mystical union with the divine. The Whirling Dervishes performance starts with an introductory speech about Rumi, followed by Sufi Music and the whirling dervish ceremony. They will give life to 800 years of tradition on the stage with their determination and faith for being lifelong followers of Sufi tradition.
