Laci Green to Speak at Texas Tech
The conference, sponsored by the Women’s Studies Program is part of a three-day celebration of 34 years of academic excellence provided by the Women’s Studies Program at Texas Tech University.

The Conference runs April 16-18 in meeting rooms on the upper level of the Student Union Building, including the Matador room where Ms Green will give her public address at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 17.

Laci Green, web personality, public speaker and activist.  The title of her presentation is "Taking Down Rape Culture". One in four female students and one in six male students are sexually violated while earning their degree. For other marginalized groups, the statistics are even more grim. In this presentation, Ms Green takes an in-depth look at our culture’s attitudes and responses to sexual violence. Using pop culture examples, videos, and discussion questions, this presentation illuminates the problem and helps bring it to a halt.

What will be covered?

1.) What is rape culture?
2.) Forces upholding rape culture
3.) Combatting rape culture with consent culture
4.) Action items (interpersonal and institutional) to end rape culture.

Green is best known as the host and creator of the internet's most popular sex education show, called “Sex Plus." "Sex Plus" seeks to start a fresh conversation about sexuality that is fun and educational. The show currently reaches 5 million young adults every month in over 125 countries.

In 2011, Green graduated with highest honors from UC Berkeley and she currently holds a certificate in rape and dating violence crisis counseling. Throughout college, she taught for-credit sex education classes to at-risk high school students and students at UC Berkeley. Her work has been featured on CBC, ABC, Dr. Phil, The Science Channel, The Atlantic Magazine, Ms. Magazine, The Huffington Post, Upworthy and more.

The Women’s Studies Program is a part of the Division of Institutional Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement.
