New Staff Ombudsman
Nathanael Haddox has been hired as a Staff
Ombudsman effective July 1, 2005.  Nathanael
Haddox, JD has been practicing family law and
mediation since graduation from the Texas Tech School
of Law in 1999.  In addition to completion of
State requirements for mediation, Nathanael also
has advanced training in family, victim/offender,
and transformative mediation.  Nathanael received
his undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice from
the University of South Carolina and worked in
Quality Assurance for the Department of Human
Services before attending Tech.

The role of the Staff Ombudsman is to be a
neutral, objective third party to provide
employees with informal assistance in resolving
work-related problems, conflicts, and disputes.
These work-related problems could even include
personal, marital or family problems that are
affecting an employee’s job performance.

In this role, the Staff Ombudsman is a
confidential resource available to listen to the
concerns of our staff and to help them identify
solutions to their problems or identify resources
they can access within the community or on campus
that can help them with their problems.

Ultimately, the Staff Ombudsman strives to assist
employees with problems before they become so
severe that the employee feels compelled to
engage the university’s formal complaint and
grievance processes through the Office of Equal
Employment Opportunity or the Personnel Office.
Once these formal remediation processes have been
accessed, the Staff Ombudsman may no longer be
involved.

The Ombudsman’s office for both students and
staff is in the Student Union Building, Room 237
(just over the Dining Detour).  Nathanael’s phone
number is 742-4722 and e-mail is n.haddox@ttu.edu

If you know of staff members in your area who need
assistance, please let them know about this new resource.
