Faculty Ombudsman Position

Anyone interested in this position should send inquiries to the Faculty Senate office at MS 1032 or email Faculty.Senate@ttu.edu. Letters of nomination or application should include a current CV. Screening of applications will begin on March 3, 2008.

The responsibilities for this position are:

• To assist faculty (current, former, or prospective) with work-related problems.
• To act as a liaison to faculty groups and the community as appropriate upon requests.
• To assist the General Counsel office with developing the campus mediation program.
• To develop a dissemination plan that would include but not be limited to website and maintenance, brochures, and university media outlets to promote faculty ombudsman services.
• Maintain neutrality, impartiality, and un-alignment in the performance of all duties.
• Assess services in relation to faculty retention and recruitment.
• Recommend policies or procedures to the university administration as needed.
• Assist faculty understanding of procedures, e.g. appeals process, and/or discipline hearings.
• Act as a referral agent for students, faculty, staff and the community regarding TTU related issues.
• Obtain professional training in conflict resolution and other aspects of mediation.
• Develop and maintain a library of resources for the Ombudsman office.
• Maintain membership in the International Ombudsman Association and adhere to best practices of that organization.

The Ombudsman has no authority, but investigates and attempts to solve problems on the basis of the International Ombudsman Association (IOA) Standards of Practice that TTU adheres to. Faculty can be referred from many sources in an effort to generate good will, correct inequities and facilitate problem solving at the most informal level.

Possible options to this position are to appoint a retired faculty member at a part time level; appoint a current faculty member and adjust their work load to accommodate the additional duties, which would include full-time summer duties and commensurate compensation.

This position will office in the same location as the current Student and Staff Ombudsman in the SUB, will be reviewed on a semi-annual basis, and will report to the Provost.

Anyone interested in this position should send inquiries to the Faculty Senate office at MS 1032 or email Faculty.Senate@ttu.edu .  Letters of nomination or application should include a current CV.  Screening of applications will begin on March 3, 2008.
