Summer Youth Classes
July 18–22
Museum of Texas Tech University (corner of 4th and Indiana)
Summer Youth Classes are designed for elementary students in Kindergarten through 5th grade.
Courses, each lasting 90 minutes per day, are scheduled in two blocks of time: 1)…1:15–2:45pm; 2)…3:15–4:45pm.
Students may sign up for one or two classes at a cost of $25 per course. Those who take two classes will be able to stay the whole afternoon and will have a snack between the two classes.
This year, the Museum of Texas Tech University (MoTTU) is excited to partner with the National Ranching Heritage Center (NRHC), which is offering classes from 8:30am-12:30pm the same week as SYC. This allows parents to have their child in classes the entire day and gives them a variety of classes to choose from.
Registration for all classes will be done through the NRHC. Class space is limited and pre-registration is required. Classes will fill up, so register early!
More information and registration are available on the NRHC website at www.nrhc.ttu.edu. Call Emily Arellano at 806.742.0498 or email emily.arellano@ttu.edu .
For information on the MoTTU classes, contact Brittany Chunn at 806.742.2432 or at brittany.chunn@ttu.edu .
Summer Youth Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Classes are as follows:

thrive in today’s natural habitats! We will learn all about unique animal adaptations and interesting bug behaviors.
Budding Botanists
Ever wonder how flowers eat or where they come from? Become a Budding Botanist, where campers will learn how plants get their food, how they breathe, and how to dissect a REAL flower! Make cool flower projects and learn how you can keep the world growing!
Amazing Stargazing
Can stars talk? You bet they can! Stars actually tell a story through constellations. You’ll learn about the constellations that we can see in the summer sky. You’ll hear all about the stories the stars tell and you will get to make your own constellation.

Earth Alert: Natural Disasters
Volcanoes, earthquakes, and avalanches, oh my! Come explore why lava erupts, what forces make the ground shake, and where to watch out for tumbling mountains of snow. Join us as we construct our own volcanoes and swirl clouds around tornadoes!
Pequeño Picassos
Attention all artists! Campers will learn about a different art movement each day and have the opportunity to create their own works of art based on the style of that day’s focus movement. Art materials will be provided for all participants!
Creatures of the Night
Ever wonder what goes on outside in the dark night while you’re sleeping? Come to this camp to find out. You’ll learn about some popular night creatures that live right here in Lubbock. You’ll get to create your own nocturnal observation journal and learn how to find these critters.

Come on a voyage of discovery as we navigate the seas, steer by the stars, and conquer new lands. Learn about explorers around the world and become one yourself. Build a Viking longboat, participate in an awesome scavenger hunt, and explore the Milky Way.
Worldly Builders
In this camp, you are a world traveler visiting historical landmarks throughout the world. Come and explore the Egyptian pyramids, the Roman Colosseum, the Greek Parthenon, the Great Wall of China, and Medieval castles - with many hands-on activities. Through the lens of an architect, campers will learn about the great structures, building materials, and other important contributions of these past civilizations.
Cloudy With A Chance Of…???
Let's get wild and wacky with weather in this camp. Join us for a week of weather experiments and hands-on fun, where we will investigate what causes this crazy West Texas weather. Campers will make their own tornado and a cloud in a bottle!
For Grades 3-5… 3:15-4:45pm
Diggin’ Up Dinos
Campers will discover what it means to be a real-life paleontologist as they do their very own dinosaur digs, learn about timelines, examine fossils, and attempt to discover why dinosaurs are now extinct. Throughout this class, participants will engage in a variety of dinosaur-themed games, activities, and art projects designed to stimulate their imagination.
Abstraction Action
Learn about abstract art and the artists who helped create it. Students will complete a new project each day in the style of a different artist.
