Techmail Email Delivery to External Addresses
Beginning at approximately 6 AM this morning, Techmail began experiencing email delivery delays to external addresses because of a few TTU eRaider account holders who responded to phishing email (s). TTU IT Division Techmail administrators have been working diligently to resolve these issues.

The root cause of the problem is a small number of Techmail accounts being used by external spammers to send thousands of spam emails across the Internet. These accounts were compromised when the TTU account holders (employees and students) responded to “phishing” attacks – emails designed to trick customers into revealing their email account username and password to the external spammer. The accounts are immediately used by the spammers to send thousands of spam emails across the Internet. The flood of resulting spam email originating from TTU triggers external Internet Service Providers (ISP’s) such as Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc. to block all email from TTU for up to 24 hours.

Due to the automated triggers used by external ISP’s, Techmail customers may continue to experience delays and/or delivery failure messages over the next 24 to 48 hours. We remind all Techmail customers to be diligent and aware of phishing emails designed to compromise their TTU email account.
