Older adults wanted for Blood Vessel Function and Walking Study

Participants must be between 60-79 years, non-smokers without diagnosed cardiovascular disease, lung or metabolic disease, not taking medications that affect cardiovascular function (including hormone replacement therapy), no high blood pressure or elevated fasting blood glucose, not obese, no bone or muscle problems that limit walking ability, and no pacemakers or other metal in the body.

This study involves 5 visits (visit 1 = 1 hour, visits 2-5 = 3 hours each) to the Kinesiology and Sport Management building and/or the Neuroimaging Institute at Texas Tech University.  Measurements include questionnaires, blood pressure, blood glucose, blood vessel function measurements, cognitive function testing, brain activation by MRI scanning, and walking speed. Participants will be compensated $200 for completion of the study and will also receive results from tests (blood glucose and resting blood pressure). This study has been approved by the Protection of Human Subjects Committee at Texas Tech University.
