PRIDE Days at Texas Tech

GLBTQ History (Awareness) Month is a month-long annual international and national observance of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer history, and the history of the gay rights and related civil rights movements. October was chosen because of the recognized National Coming Out Day already established as a widely known event on October 11. In addition, October commemorated the first march on Washington by GLBTQ people in 1979.

As a coalition of the Texas Tech University community, coordinated events are intended to encourage honesty and openness about being gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer and an ally (GLBTQ).

Need a guest speaker in your classroom?

As part of GLBTQ Awareness Month, there are presentations available to teachers for classroom discussion.

  • "Four Corners: A GLBTQ Values Exploration" - Contact Dr. Amanda Wheeler at amanda.wheeler@ttu.edu at the TTU Student Counseling Center with questions or to schedule the program in your classroom.
  • PFLAG Lubbock: Speakers Bureau  - PFLAG Lubbock has several members who volunteer to speak to community groups and university classes about issues related to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender sexuality. Our presenters vary depending on the topic of interest and many times we have panel presentations involving a group of our members. Contact PFLAG Lubbock at speakers@pflaglubbock.org
