As a Fulbright Scholar, Dr. Velikova spent last semester in the Republic of Georgia conducting wine business research. The country of Georgia is considered the birthplace of wine, which is famed for its 8,000-year history of wine-making and is home to over 500 unique indigenous grape varieties. In her presentation, Dr. Velikova will introduce the most ancient wine-making process in the world, which is exclusive to Georgia. In recognition of its uniqueness, UNESCO added this traditional Georgian wine-making method to its list of intangible cultural heritage.
Presentation attendees will have an opportunity to taste Georgian wine made in accordance with this ancient tradition, as well as a few other traditional Georgian varieties.
Dr. Velikova will also cover various opportunities that the Fulbright program offers for U.S. Scholars and graduate students.
