Waking from the American DREAM: Immigration and DACA
Civil Counterpoints: A Campus Conversation Series aims to stimulate thoughtful and respectful dialogue on volatile contemporary issues among members of the Texas Tech community. The third program of this series concerns immigration and immigration policies, with a specific emphasis on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy. 

Dr. Erik Bucy, the Formby Professor of Strategic Communication in the College of Media & Communications at Texas Tech, will moderate. 

Featured speakers include:
 
Benjamin Powell, a professor of economics in the Rawls College of Business and Director of the Free Market Institute at Texas Tech, Senior Fellow with the Independent Institute, and the North American Editor of the Review of Austrian Economics. Dr. Powell has published numerous articles and books concerning immigration, including a book titled the Economics of Immigration published in 2015 by Oxford University Press.

Jorge Ramirez, the Walter and Anne Huffman Professor of Law  in the Texas Tech School of Law and an expert in international law, making him a lecturer in high demand where he has taught in over 6 different countries . Dr. Ramirez serves as an editor of the Baltic Journal of Law & Politics. He is also the recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including the Chancellor's Council Distinguished Teaching at Texas Tech University. 

Paola Ledesma, an Immigration Attorney at the Ledesma Immigration Law Office, an immigration firm that specializes in Immigration and Naturalization matters, including DACA.
