"Playing with Chess" Art Exhibition - First Friday Art Trail
Landmark Arts at the Texas Tech University School of Art presents Playing with Chess at the TTU Satellite Gallery. This exhibition will be on view from July 6, 2018 to August 5, 2018. This exhibition will also be a part of the First Friday Art Trail for both July and August. The exhibition will open to the public from 6-9 PM during FFAT and by appointment.

This exhibition brings together the work of 23 artists to continue the tradition begun in the 1944 show, The Imaginary Chess, in NYC, organized by Marcel Duchamp, Max Ernst, and more. In homage to this tradition Texas Tech University Associate Professor in the School of Art, Future Atkins, has organized this exhibition to explore and celebrate artists' take on the classic game. The group of  artists include alumni of the Texas Tech University School of Art, professors at universities across the United States, public school art teachers, and more. The work consists of glass, clay, collage, assemblage, painting and metal pieces. The styles range from traditional to conceptual, historical to contemporary, mythical to practical.

Playing with Chess is also collaborating with the TTU Chess Club whose members will come and jury the exhibition based on their intimate knowledge with the game. Chess games will be played during the First Friday Art Trail exhibitions. In addition to the show's extended stay in the Satellite Gallery in Lubbock, the exhibition will travel to Alpine, TX later this Fall.

Artists include: Chris Adams, Donna Finch Adams, Future Akins, Steve Black, David Bondt, Arlene Cason, Chad Farris, William Flint, Francys Flanagan, Dawna Gillespie, Roger Holmes, Calab Jack, Norman Kary, Shawn Knuckles, Jayson Luce, Germain Quintanilla, Daniel Rodriguez, Bob Rynearson, Marco Sanchez, Jim Shivers, Barb Stewart, Jon Whitfill, and Chase Yarbrough

The Texas Tech University Satellite Gallery at Charles Adams Studio Project (CASP) is located at 1108 5th Street (5th street and Avenue J) in downtown Lubbock.
