Book discussions to focus on ‘Bless Me, Ultima’

Copies of the contemporary novel, “Bless Me, Ultima” by Rudolfo Anaya will be available free for the first 20 participants who attend a series of entertaining discussions on the book.

The discussions will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 8, 15 and 22 in the Texas Tech University Library’s Croslin Room.  Refreshments will be served.

This discussion is part of a series of group book reads sponsored jointly by the Humanities Center at Texas Tech and the University Libraries, as well as the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts (LHUCA). LHUCA selected “Bless Me, Ultima” for OneBook LBK 2018, a community-wide reading program encouraging book clubs throughout the community to join for creative and meaningful discussion through reading.

This coming-of-age classic, the best-selling Chicano novel of all time, follows a young boy as he questions his faith and beliefs. Anaya, winner of the 2015 National Humanities Medal, is acclaimed for his rich and compassionate writing about the Mexican-American experience.

All are invited to attend. Guest parking will be available in the R11 (band) lot located north of 18th Street between Akron and Boston Avenues. Contact Kimberly Vardeman at kimberly.vardeman@ttu.edu or 806.834.4156 for more information.
