Please join the University Libraries, the Texas Tech College of Arts & Sciences and the Texas Tech Friends of the Libraries at the opening of the exhibition “Ezio Gribaudo: A Lifetime in Art” that will feature select paintings by Ezio Gribaudo from 1969 to 2016. The exhibition will run from September 13 to October 31, 2018, in the Dean’s Gallery Space of the Texas Tech University Library.
The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 13 in the University Library’s Croslin Room with a brief presentation on Ezio Gribaudo, followed by the screening of the documentary “The White Magic of Ezio Gribaudo” (2015) by Marco Agostinelli and Andrea Liuzza. A reception and viewing of the exhibition will follow in the Third Floor Dean’s Gallery Space of the Library.
The exhibition is curated by Victoria Surliuga, whose book “Ezio Gribaudo: The Man in the Middle of Modernism” (2016) won first place for the Texas Tech President’s Faculty Book Award 2017-2018. She is associate professor of Italian Studies in the Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures. This is the second Gribaudo exhibition that Surliuga has curated in Lubbock. The first one was “Ezio Gribaudo’s Theaters of Memory” at the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts (LHUCA) in 2016.
Ezio Gribaudo is a painter, sculptor and graphic artist. His award-winning production has been recognized with various international prizes, among which was the XXXIII Venice Biennale Prize (1966). As art publisher, he has worked with Francis Bacon, Marcel Duchamp, Peggy Guggenheim and Joan Miró, just a few artists and personalities with whom he crossed paths. Gribaudo’s work can be found in the permanent collections of many museums around the world, such as the MoMA in New York and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice.
