Katharine Hayhoe opens PLPS 2018-19 Series on October 12

Katharine Hayhoe, a professor in the Department of Political Science, the director of the Climate Science Center at Texas Tech and an atmospheric scientist who studies climate change, will open the 2018-19 Presidential Lecture & Performance Series. 

 

Hayhoe has been recognized by Time Magazine as one of the top 100 Most Influential People in the World, and her work was featured on “The Years of Living Dangerously,” an Emmy-award winning documentary series. She also is a lead author for the U.S. National Climate Assessments and has served on the panels for the National Academy of Science and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Hayhoe also is the host of the series “Global Weirding” for Texas Tech Public Media. 

 

Hayhoe will facilitate a panel discussion on climate change solutions by industry leaders in the fields of conventional energy, free market advocacy and policy, and clean energy. The other members on the panel are Joey Hall, executive vice president, Permian Operations for Pioneer Natural Resources; Bob Inglis, executive director for the Energy and Enterprise Initiative at George Mason University; and Michael Webber, deputy director of the Energy Institute and professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. 

 

Tickets for the performance are $20 and are available through Select-A-Seat at (806) 770-2000 or www.selectaseatlubbock.com. Texas Tech students are eligible to receive one free ticket with a valid student ID at the SUB info desk. Student tickets are available one month prior to events.
