"Healing in the Arts" Performance
We are proud to support the hard work and dedication of the members of "Healing in the Arts" by hosting a special performance for our 35th Annual Conference on Women on the campus of Texas Tech University. The event will be held in the Student Union Bldg, Escondido Theatre, located on the lower level, 6PM-7:00PM, with a reception to follow. This performance in FREE and open to the public.

Healing in the Arts (HITA) is an organization devoted to making a change in Lubbock by raising awareness of true stories of trauma and healing. HITA tells stories of students in our community, from Lubbock high school and college campuses.

In January 2016, creator Madelynn Engle returned to school after taking a medical withdrawal from Texas Tech University the previous semester. Her teacher and mentor, Dr. Shera Jackson, had offered Madelynn a chance to organize an independent study where they would examine how the fine arts can be used in human development and trauma. For Madelynn's final project, she was supposed to create a performance telling her story and putting it to a dance. With the help of five close friends, she then created a show that featured their personal stories of trauma and healing.
