APRIL 2019 PROGRAM

Faculty Research Club hosted by the Rumsey Research and Development Fund,

The Department of Natural Resources Management ,and The Department of Biological Sciences

THURSDAY April 25th, 2019  4:00 PM EAST Suite Level, 5th Floor East Side Texas Tech Club.

Dr. Warren Conway Bricker Endowed Chair in Wildlife Management, Department of Natural Resources Management. Dr. Conway's research focuses upon a wide variety of wildlife-related research topics with ecologically relevant and applied wildlife population, conservation, and management issues, and more recent efforts have focused upon shorebird and waterfowl toxicology.  Current research has expanded into pronghorn, elk, bighorn sheep and mule deer ecology, conservation and management in Texas and New Mexico, with particular foci upon large mammal disease transmission risk and pathology in both native and non-native feral populations of large ungulates.  

Dr. Robert Bradley Director and Curator of Mammals, Natural Science Research Laboratory, Museum of TTU; Professor, Department of Biological Sciences. Dr. Bradley's research focuses upon systematics and molecular evolution in mammals; particularly in geomyoid and cricetid rodents, as well as examination of hybrid zones between genetically distinct taxa; including isolating mechanisms and the dynamics of genetic introgression.  Dr. Bradley's museum research is focused upon expansion of the NSRL, including the growth and utilization of natural history collections, especially those pertaining to mammals.

Dr. Richard Stevens Professor; Department of Natural Resources Management. Dr. Stevens research interests lie at the intersection of community ecology, macroecology, and biogeography. Part of his work examines the basic community ecology of bats and rodents in Paraguay, California, and Texas, in particular the effects of species environment interactions, dispersal, seasonality and competition on the structure of communities.

Heather Coats is a Senior Safety Officer in the Lab Safety Section of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS). Heather’s primary service foci include in-person training to faculty and students, designing new online training, departmental outreach and social media and the evaluation of laboratory procedures. EHS recently redesigned their website and initiated new learning opportunities including a workshop series on various safety topics and the establishment of a graduate safety organization.
