Summer course: Genetics of Physical Activity and Exercise Performance

The purpose of the KIN 5317-201 graduate seminar titled, "Genetics of Physical Activity and Exercise Performance" is to first cover important concepts in genetics, then take those concepts and discuss them in how they relate to physical activity and exercise. While this course will largely employ research on these topics, we will also discuss other highly debatable topics that relate to human performance (e.g. controversy on genetic testing in athletes; how genetics predicts strength and endurance performance, etc.).

The format of this seminar will be interactive and discussion-based. The text we will be using can be purchased as an e-book version for approximately $30. The title of the textbook is “Routledge Handbook of Sport and Exercise Systems Genetics”. For more information on topics we will discuss, please visit this link to the book: https://www.routledge.com/Routledge-Handbook-of-Sport-and-Exercise-Systems-Genetics-1st-Edition/Lightfoot-Hubal-Roth/p/book/9781138504851.

This seminar is open to all graduate students, of any discipline, interested in learning more about genetics as it relates to exercise and human performance.
