Undergraduate Research Assistant Job

Undergraduate Research Assistant Job

If you are curious about atmospheric phenomena and meteorological processes or in general about weather and climate, love coding and data analyses, and have passion for academic research or want to get some research experiences, this job is for you.

We are urgently looking for two Undergraduate Research Assistants in the Boundary Layer Meteorology Group of the Atmospheric Science Division within the Department of Geosciences at Tech. If selected, you will work with Dr. Sandip Pal (group leader, Boundary layer Meteorology group @ Tech, https://sites.google.com/view/sandippal-ttu/ ) for a maximum 20 hours/week.

Most of the work involve data analyses and interpretation using already available data sets from different field campaigns, aircraft measurements and radiosonde profiles, and tower measurements. The students will investigate the role of atmospheric thermodynamics in governing diverse atmospheric features like boundary layer turbulence, urban heat island, and spatial and temporal variability of different tracers like aerosols, trace gases, greenhouse gases etc. within the boundary layer.

Students will also have a unique opportunity to obtain hands-on training and experiences in research activities of Pal’s group and will work with data collection, if interested. Students majoring in any of the following disciplines are encouraged to apply: Geosciences, Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Plant and Soil science, Environmental Engineering or any other Engineering fields. If you are a student of Atmospheric Science Minor, you are highly encouraged to apply. A good background in mathematics and some experiences in coding (Python, IDL, Matlab, etc.) are required. The position will start after spring break.

Please reach out directly to Dr. Pal by email sandip.pal@ttu.edu if interested and please do not forget to attach your CV.
