Lubbock Lake Landmark's Archaeology in Action Days
The Lubbock Lake Landmark presents Archaeology in Action Days from 9 a.m. to noon daily, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, July 18th, 19th, and 20th at 2401 Landmark Drive. Activities include daily tours of the excavation site that start at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. A Dawn of Time Fun Run is scheduled to begin at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, July 20th. Children's activities, a master storyteller, Eldrena Douma, and master potters, Melda Navasie and Darlene James, will do presentations from 9 a.m. to noon daily. All three visitors are Tewa-Hopi and are related to the famous American potter Nampeyo, who lived from 1860-1942 and was part of the Tewa-Hopi people.

Located in a bend of Yellowhouse Draw in northwest Lubbock, the Landmark is an internationally known archaeological site and nature preserve. While there may be sites in North America that reveal human habitation older than 12,000 years, the Landmark is unique in that its record of humans is continuous. Animals have passed through the area as far back as 3 million years ago. The draw for humans and animals is that a source of water was always available.
