After the bombs fell silent in Kosovo in June 1999, Dr. John Baldwin visited Pristina at the invitation of the International Rescue Committee. That visit provided the foundation for the Dartmouth Medical School/University of Pristina Medical School partnership. This partnership launched the reconstruction of the Kosovar health care system and re-founding of the medical school at the University of Pristina after months of war and years of ethnic cleansing.

In August 2002, world-renowned photographer Klavdij Sluban captured the story of this relationship. The photographs depict the distressed conditions at a hospital in Pristina, a city in the Kosovo republic of the former Yugoslavia, in the aftermath of the Bosnian conflict. Following the viewing, Dr. Baldwin will vividly recount the struggles and triumphs associated with rebuilding a national healthcare system from the ruins of a war-torn society.

After Five with the Museum Association is made possible by a generous grant from ¬the Helen Jones Foundation, Inc. For more information, please call the Association Offices at 742-2443.
