Increase in Spam to TechMail Addresses

Despite multiple warnings from the TTU IT Division, a small number of TTU faculty, staff, and students have responded to “phishing” e-mails by responding to the messages with their eRaider usernames and passwords. As a result, spammers have subsequently used the compromised accounts to harvest all TTU e-mail distribution lists and have begun sending large quantities of spam to these addresses.

The TTU IT Division is currently investigating this issue in an effort to reduce the amount of spam delivered to these addresses. Please assist us by following the below safe computing practices:

  • Do not click on links contained within an e-mail unless you are certain of the sender’s identity and expecting the information;
  • Do not open attachments unless you are certain of the sender’s identity and expecting the information;
  • Delete and do not reply to any of these e-mails;
  • Update your virus software; Symantec AntiVirus is available for download at http://eraider.ttu.edu at no cost to the University community; and
  • Keep current on critical system updates:

As a reminder, the TTU IT Division will NEVER ask for your eRaider password, nor will any other authorized affiliate.

For more information or questions, please contact IT Help Central at (806) 742-HELP (4357) or via e-mail at ithelpcentral@ttu.edu.
