Auditions for the upcoming fall Maedgen Mainstage and Laboratory Theatre shows will be held Thursday, August 25, 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on the Mainstage of the Maedgen Theatre, located on the Texas Tech University campus. Auditions are open to any student currently enrolled at Texas Tech University (undergraduates--six or more credit hours; graduates—three or more credit hours) and to TTU faculty and staff. Audition forms must be picked up at the Maedgen Theatre call board, completed, and ten copies made prior to the audition.
The first fall Maedgen Theatre Mainstage production is the musical "Urinetown," music by Mark Hollmann; lyrics by Mark Hollmann and Greg Kotis, which provides a comedic romp when the citizens of a Gotham-like city experience a devastating drought; public toilets are banned, and the poor citizens are required (by a malevolent company) to pay to use public facilities. Production dates are October 13-16 and 20-23, 2011. The second Maedgen Mainstage production is "Our Town" by Thornton Wilder. This Pulitzer Prize-winner, circa 1900, celebrates the “significance in the trivial acts of life.” Production dates are December 1-4, 2011.
The Maedgen Laboratory Theatre production, "Mud" by Maria Irene Fornes, tells the story of the triangular relationship of Mae and her adopted companion Lloyd when Henry, a stranger who promises the hope of literacy, comes between them. Production dates are October 31-November 6, 2011.
Audition forms may be picked up at the department’s call board. Auditioners will sign up for a timeslot at the department call board prior to the audition. Students auditioning for the fall season should bring ten copies of their audition form, one memorized American contemporary dramatic or comedic monologue, and 16 bars of a song, Broadway musical-style preferred.
The names of students who are chosen for call-back auditions will be announced the following day and posted on both the theatre callboard and the Maedgen Laboratory Theatre (west entrance) window. Callbacks for "Urinetown" will be held on Friday, August 26 from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. in the Maedgen Mainstage Theatre. Callbacks for "Mud" will be held on Saturday, August 27 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Maedgen Laboratory Theatre. Callbacks for "Our Town" will also be held on Saturday, August 27 from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on the Maedgen Theatre Mainstage.
