HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING

Texas Tech University’s Department of Theatre and Dance presents “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” October 25 through the 28 at the Maedgen Mainstage Theatre, located at 2812 18th Street. Curtain is 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

This award-winning, smash Broadway hit that premiered October, 1961, is a joyfully funny musical satire of big business and all it holds sacred. Follow the brash and ambitious J. Pierrepont Finch’s meteoric rise from lowly window washer to high-powered executive. While doing as little work as possible, and with the help of his handy guidebook, Finch navigates the pitfalls of the corporate world, finding love on his way up.

When asked what she found exciting about directing this play, Courtney Brown said, “For me, the most exciting question we can ponder with this project is asking our audience and ourselves, ‘How much has changed from the climate in which this show was created?’  We’re going to invite the audience to have a ball and laugh with us, enjoy themselves, be entertained, and then later, mull over how some aspects have changed, and some that have not.  Even though I intend to respect the authenticity and nature of “How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying,” I still want to shake things up a bit.  Our students also have a great opportunity to stretch their acting chops with this show. Many themes and challenges inherent in the show will give our students ample opportunities to explore, challenge, play and discover. “How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying” may poke a lot of fun at the culture and ridiculous nature of the corporate world, but it does so with a knowing wink. I can’t wait to get started!”

Tickets are $18 for individuals; $5 for students with a valid ID. Some free tickets for Texas Tech students are available. For more information call the Maedgen Theatre box office at (806) 742-3603.
