COME JOIN CASA AT THEIR ANNUAL 5K ON SATURDAY

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) is hosting its annual 5K on April 19 at Mackenzie Park. They are teaming up with The Color Dash this year to add some color to the fundraiser.

BodyWorks will be on site with the Spider Climber and Rock Wall. They will have Zumba instructors to warm up the crown pre-race. Terri Furman and Evan Onstot of KLBK will emcee the event.

The Kids K starts at 10 a.m. and the 5K starts at 10:30 a.m. Registration on the 18th is from 12-6 p.m. at the BodyWorks on Slide and 4th Street. Packet pickup on the 19th begins at 8:30 a.m. at Mackenzie Park. Last year more than $44,000 was raised, all of which stays in the Lubbock area. Individuals and teams can register at www.casaofthesouthplains.org.

When home is no longer safe for a child, and the child must enter the foster care system, a judge may appoint a committed volunteer called a CASA or Court Appointed Special Advocate®. The volunteer assists in navigating the way for abused and neglected children—out of the complex, overburdened child welfare system and into safe, permanent homes.
