What is Triota - Gamma Nu Texas Tech University Chapter?

Texas Tech University Women's Studies Honor Society, Iota, Iota, Iota is a national academic and service-based Women's Studies honor society. The Greek letter, Iota, was selected to represent the three goddesses Inanna, Ishtar, and Isis. Triota strives to maintain feminist values central to women's studies.

The Texas Tech University chapter, Gamma Nu has recently formed in order to recognize the academic achievements of students in Women's Studies.

Purpose

The purpose of the chapter is to encourage and support scholarship and excellence in women's studies at Texas Tech University. Additionally, this society will promote an interest in Women's Studies, research in social problems affecting all women, and such other social and intellectual activities as wel lead to improvement in the condition of all people.

Membership

Membership is open to undergraduate and graduate students having a strong interest in women's studies and having achieved second semester standing with at least 6 hrs of women's studies courses with a GPA of at least 3.0. All who meet approved academic criteria are invited to become members of this Women's Studies academic society without regard to gender, race, ethnicity, religion, differing abilities, economic class, or sexual orientation.
  • Membership dues are $20 for Fall/Spring ($10 per semester)
  • Q: Can I join if I graduate this spring 2014?  A: Yes, if you are graduating in May, you are still able to become a member of this honorary society.
Membership is now open to all Texas Tech University students, regardless of major, who have completed at least two* Women’s Studies courses and have a Women’s Studies and cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Officers

Officers shall be elected from the general membership. No one officer shall serve more than 2yrs and not more than one year in any given office.

Meetings

The Gamma Nu Chapter held its first meeting, March 31, 2014. Annual members meeting includes discussion of inherent contradictions of elitism in honor societies versus inclusionary principles and values consistent with feminist ideologies.

    NOTE: Membership dues will be collected at the time of initiation and will be $10.
