CAMPUS CRIME ALERT UPDATE - FALSE REPORT
CAMPUS CRIME ALERT UPDATE - FALSE REPORT

On September 15, 2014 the Texas Tech Police Department received a report of a sexual assault which allegedly occurred at the Student Recreation Center.  A TechAlert was issued to the campus community in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act.

TTPD CASE # 14-1429

Over the past several weeks, police worked diligently to review physical evidence and conducted interviews in an effort to identity a suspect.

During subsequent interviews, the alleged victim admitted to making materially false statements and has confirmed no crimes occurred on the Texas Tech campus.

Filing a false report is a Class B Misdemeanor, punishable by a fine not to exceed $2,000, confinement in jail for a term not to exceed 180 days, or both such fine and confinement.  Additionally, the filing of a false report is a violation of the Texas Tech University Code of Student Conduct and may result in campus disciplinary penalties.

The facts of this case will be presented to the Lubbock County District Attorney's Office and the Office of Student Conduct.
