TONIGHT - FMI Public Speaker Series: Taming Leviathan

The Free Market Institute (FMI) will host Prof. Peter J. Boettke for a public lecture are part of the FMI Public Speaker Series on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 from 5:30 - 7:00 PM in the Grand Auditorium (CR 105) of the Rawls College of Business. 

Prof. Boettke's presentation for the FMI Public Speaker Series will explore ideas from the study of political economy about the role of the state in economic affairs and address the needs and opportunities for political and economic reform that will create an institutional environment, which promotes voluntary exchange, entrepreneurship and economic progress. 

Prof. Peter Boettke is the BB&T Professor for the Study of Capitalism and the vice-president and director of the F.A. Hayek Program for Advanced Study in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at the Mercatus Center as well as University Professor of Economics and Philosophy at George Mason University. Prof. Boettke has authored and coauthored 11 books, and is editor of the Review of Austrian Economics, series editor of the New Thinking in Political Economy book series, and co-editor of the Cambridge Studies in Economics, Cognition, and Society.

Boettke is a former Fulbright Fellow at the University of Economics in Prague, a National Fellow at Stanford University, and Hayek Visiting Fellow at the London School of Economics. Before joining the faculty at George Mason University, he taught at New York University. He received his Ph.D. in economics from George Mason University.

During the 2014-2015 academic year, Prof. Boettke is serving as the Ludwig von Mises Visiting Scholar with the FMI. In that capacity, he is making contributions to the Institute sponsored research program 'Research on the Origins of Economic Freedom and Prosperity.' During his visits, Prof. Boettke has made presentations of working research in the FMI's regular research seminar, advised graduate students on their working research, participated in an academic seminar on his recent publication Living Economics: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow (2012, Independent Institute and University Francisco Marroquin) and delivered a number of guest lectures in academic classes. 

This event is free and open to all members of the Texas Tech University community and the general public.
