Student-Centered Learning Strategies in a Flipped Course
Many teachers in higher education have found flipping their classes enabled them to incorporate a plethora of active instructional activities that emphasize what students do not what the teacher does (i.e., mostly lecture). The learning environment of a flipped class combines student learning of disciplinary content out-of-class, often via audio-visual lectures, so class time can be dedicated to student engagement in participatory learning activities. In the resultant dynamic, learner-centered environment students collaboratively develop and expand higher-order thinking skills as they engaged in lively and expansive discussions, write and discuss disciplinary issues and concepts, synthesize ideas, and make real world-applications.
