Lunar New Year 2011
According to the Chinese Lunar calendar, the Chinese New Year Day is the new moon day of the first lunar month. The first lunar month contains Winter Solstice, which is around December 23 in the Gregorian calendar (western calendar). As a result, Chinese New Year Day might fall in the second half of January or the first half of February. There are 12 animals in the counting system for the Lunar Year: Rat, Cow, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Chicken, Dog, and Pig.

The 2011 Lunar New Year formally commences on February 3rd with the “Year of the Rabbit.”

Lunar New Year events are provided to the Texas Tech and local community to educate individuals on the history and traditions of the Asian culture, to offer a welcoming and friendly campus environment, and to build more strong relationships with faculty, staff and students.
