Grammy Nominated Latin Jazz Pianist Nachito Herrera Performs March 1

Boasting both a Grammy and Emmy nomination, he has shared the stage with such notable musicians as Doc Severinsen, McCoy Tyner, Tito Fuentes and Chick Corea.  During the 1990’s he was the Music Director at the Tropicana in Havana and of the famed jazz group Cubanismo.  In 2001, he moved to the United States and has toured the United States extensively as a member of The Afro Cuban All Stars and has appeared at the Omaha Jazz & Blues Festival and at the North Sea Jazz Festival, Montreaux Jazz Festival with Cubanismo and has performed at other jazz festivals in Granada, St. Lucia, Chicago, and San Jose.

Just this past year Nachito Herrera received the American Heritage Award from the American Immigration Council in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments and positive contributions to the United States. He received two Grammy nominations as part of his work with Cubanismo and was recipient of 25 on the Rise – Hispanic Leaders by the Minnesota Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. The Minnesota Music Awards named him Best Latin Artist, and City Pages named him Best Jazz Artist of the Twin Cities. Nachito Herrera holds a Master of Music degree from Superior Institute of Art, Havana, Cuba. He currently teaches at the MacPhail School of Music in Minneapolis.
