Play in an official chess tournament! Both K-12 students and adults are welcome.
Place: Monterey High School, 3211 47th St. Lubbock, TX. 79413 (Please enter cafeteria on the southeast end of the building. Parking is also available in the southeast parking lots next to the tennis courts.)
Description of Event: March “Check with Tech” Chess Challenge, an Individual and Team Scholastic Championship, with rated and unrated sections. There is also an Open Section for adults. Boards and sets are supplied.
Schedule: On-site registration: 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 1. Pre-registered players should arrive by 9:45 a.m. (Late arrivals can play in remaining rounds.) There will be four rounds of play. The awards presentation is planned for
3 p.m.
Games are played in eight separate sections: Primary & Elementary (K-5), Middle School (K-8), High School (K-12) (no USCF membership required) and four Rated “Championship” sections (USCF membership required): K-3 (will be combined with K-5 if fewer than six entries), K-5 , K-8, K-12 and Open (available to adults). There is a total of 30 minutes maximum per player per game.
Entry Fees: $12 if received by 2/14; $15 if received if by 2/28; on site $20. No USCF membership required except in the Rated “Championship” sections. Membership can be obtained at www.uschess.org or onsite on 3/1 until 10 a.m.
