McLane Teammates Reading Program for TTU Undergraduate Students
The McLane Teammates Reading Program is a one semester, non-credit reading group where participants read and discuss selections from classic works and from contemporary scholars that address important questions in political economy. Participants that successfully complete the program receive a $1,000 scholarship.

About the Program
The theme for the spring 2017 program is Cities, Local Government, and Local Governance. Participants will read and discuss classic and contemporary works by economists, political scientists, and urban scholars that examine the economics of cities. The readings will address a range of questions including:
  • Why are cities important?
  • Why are some cities shrinking and others growing rapidly?
  • What are the causes and consequences of urban sprawl?
  • What can the private, voluntary sector do that government normally does?
  • Are many, small local governments better than one, large government?
In their exploration of these questions, participants will read and discuss the works of Jane Jacobs, Elinor Ostrom, Edward Glaeser, Gordon Tullock, Anthony Downs, and Richard Florida, among many others.

Application Process
All undergraduate students, who will have a full time enrollment status at Texas Tech University during the spring 2017 semester, are eligible and encourage to apply.
