Silence in the Midst of Chaos featuring Mike Russell, SOM Class of 2018

The TTUHSC Office of Global Health (OGH) invites you to attend an ongoing lecture series on issues related to global health and building healthy communities. The lectures will be held twice a month at 12:00 noon CT. Invited guest speakers will share their personal stories and experiences. Everyone is invited to attend. Free lunch will be provided to
the first 50 attendees.

    During a gap year between his second and third years of medical school, Mike Russell completed a Masters in Public Health (MPH) with a concentration in global medical education. During this year, Mike had the opportunity to traverse the globe, completing medical rotations in Kenya, Nicaragua, and India. In addition to experiencing global medical education in these diverse international settings, Mike was able to observe the differing cultural practices surrounding death and dying. His experiences in this realm became the basis for his Medical Ethics and Humanities senior thesis which he will discuss during this presentation.

    Mike Russell is a third year medical student from Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania. He attended undergraduate at Kettering University in Flint, Michigan where he majored in chemical engineering and worked for General Motors conducting alternative energies research. At the TTUHSC campus Mike is active in a number of organizations with the majority of his involvement centered on student government. Currently Mike plans on specializing in Orthopedic Surgery. Upon completion of residency, he aspires to serve as a Pediatric
    Orthopedic surgeon and teacher in a developing country.


    This presentation will not be linked to the additional TTUHSC campuses; however, it will be recorded for future viewing on the OGH website.

    This event is free and open to the public. No RSVP is necessary. Meals will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis.

    Please note: reserved meals will be held until 12:05 at which time any unclaimed meals will be given away.


    The Office of Global Health (OGH) will be collecting supplies for the special needs school in Jinotega, Nicaragua. The special needs school serves children throughout the
    Jinotega region who live with various special needs including deafness, autism, and Downs Syndrome.
