This class is an exploration of the 5th and 6th century Greco-Roman Christian mosaics of Ravenna, Italy. These mosaics contain elements of Byzantine and Roman iconography that reflects the city’s key location toward the northern end of the Adriatic Sea, where Byzantine and Roman traditions came together. The city’s ancient churches have been designated a United Nations Educational and Cultural Organization World Heritage Site.
