eRaider Password Renewal Period Increase from 90 to 180 days

Over the last year, the TTU IT Division has been implementing changes to the eRaider password policy to bring our current practices into alignment with updated recommendations from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) guidelines. These changes enable the use of stronger passphrases, reduce complexity requirements, and lengthen the life of good passwords, resulting in account holders using stronger passwords and passphrases that are easier to remember. We are accelerating this project in order to reduce the number of password change issues that may come up during this time of remote working, teaching, and learning. Beginning Thursday, March 26th, at 5:30pm CDT, we will implement the following changes:

  • Password expiration increased from 90 days to 180 days.
  • Dictionary words are permitted.

Most of you do not need to do anything now. However, if your current eRaider password expires before the changes are made on the evening of Thursday, March 26, 2020, you will still need to change your password. If you have received a system message to change your password but your password doesn’t expire before the scheduled change, the new 180 day period will apply to your account from the last password changed date.

We are continuing to evaluate additional changes that will further enhance our password policy without lowering security
